At the origin of the collaboration between Piacenza’s Provincial Administration and the Association there is the figure of M° Giuseppe Verdi, considering the imminence of 2013, year of the bicentenary of his birth.

A strong significance linked to the two Verdi’s sites par excellence, which are situated in the Piacenza’s territory: the “Villa Sant’Agata” residence and the Villanova’s hospital. One, symbol of Verdi as composer, farm entrepreneur, partner of Giuseppina Strepponi and the other symbol of the generous benefactor. Two aspects of the great “genius” which complete themselves in the politician who found one of the different expressions also in this place: the Piacenza’s Province Council Room, entitled to him.

Based on these ideals the, sempre libera Association was born, composed by thirty-five women, coming from different Italian cities, who adopted the the female characters names of Giuseppe Verdi’s operas, officially introduced in Milan, at the Giulio Manfredi’s boutique, on 10 October 2008, M° Verdi’s birth anniversary.

The Association, from now to the 2015, together with the Piacenza’s Province, besides to spread and further the love for Giuseppe Verdi’s music, intends to promote beneficent and solidarity initiatives, projects for young students, particularly on the Piacenza’s territory, but also to search for collaborations and patronages with important Italian and European realities.

Among the first projects that wants to fulfil there is the National Competition “VIVA V.E.R.D.I.” for the composition of a Patriotic Anthem to celebrate the 150 years of the Italy’s Unity in 2011, involving, for the music, students from all the Italian Conservatories, while for the creation of the text exclusively the Secondary Schools of Piacenza’s Province, following the adhesion to the call disseminated by the Council Ministers Presidence, of which we are waiting for the results.

In 2013, on the occasion of Verdi’s celebrations, among the various proposals, there are ‘two’ projects targeted to Schools: the Association has foresaw to realize a book edited by Paola Dei (Abigaille, Nabucco) to give a connotation to female characters who represent it and to link every Member to a common thread represented by M° Verdi. Inside the text Verdi’s heroines will be read and interpreted according to the archetype or the archetypes which guided and overwhelmed them during their lives, but also on the basis of anthropological, magic and historical-political aspects, which determined the events of their lives. The text, accompanied by drawings which represent Verdi’s heroines peculiar features, will also be a way to better convey to secondary schools and University students Verdi’s opera; the idea is in fact that of making also young people write out a little interpretation of them, to put below the psycological one. Those young people could also be the ones who also make the drawings. For this project, the patronage of the Ministry for Public Instruction and University will be asked. The preface-introduction will be edited, Piacenza’s Province President. At the end of the text, there will be a tail piece that will tell us, in few lines, some things of the real Association Members. We intend to present the book during a ‘day dedicated to Verdi’s female characters’ at the S. Margherita Auditorium of the Piacenza and Vigevano Foundation. The second project is the Competition for the realization of the “logo-poster” of Verdi’s celebrations in 2013, to develop by 2012 together with the Parma’s Province (between art schools as the Art Secondary School Cassinari in Piacenza and the Art Institute Toschi in Parma) with the aim of realizing an itinerant exhibition. The logo-poster which will win will be used for our initiatives and events in 2013.

Among music initiatives: Amarcord of the retired women choristers and beneficent Recitals to organise in Verdi’s sites as the Villanova’s Hospital, the Giuseppe Verdi retirement home in Milan, the native home in Roncole Verdi in Busseto and Villa Sant’Agata residence.
A recurring appointment, from 2010 yet, is the Woman's Day (8th March) at the Arena del Sole in Roccabianca. Renovated in the 2009 spring, it keeps some of the statues representing Verdi's oeuvres, which many years ago were part of the monument which the sculptor Ximenes raised in Parma at the beginning of the century, almost completely destroyed from an air raid in 1944. In Roccabianca the Veridssime will make a tribute to Giuseppina Strepponi, Verdi's partner, and through her they want to do homage to the women universe in close relationship with the important sky of wall paintings enclosed in the Roccabianca fortress: the histories of Griselda, from the last novella of the Boccaccio Decameron, quiet and strong woman, who afford cruel and unexplainable oppressions from the husband Gualtieri, Marquis of Saluzzo.

Searching for 35 fashion designers with a world prestige…… with this slogan announce the extraordinary event of 2013 –in collaboration with an important fashion magazine- on the realisation of 35 costumes. The soirée will take place with a fashion show, in a Piacenza’s province castle, of 35 models who will wear the dress ideated by the fashion artist and will have a fashion show accompanied by the ‘holder’ of the 35 Verdi’s characters of the Association. The Verdi’s scenography of the event will be ordered to the architecture students of the Milan Polytechnic in Piacenza. The proceeds of this soirée will be made available for the musicology students of the Bayreuth’s Music Civic School who intend to deepen Verdi’s figure. This collaboration is motivated by the fact that Richard Wagner was born in the same year of Verdi, in 1813, and in Bayreuth takes place the Festival dedicated to him. This exchange initiative will be made possible thanks to the collaboration with the Germany Consulate.

Giulio Manfredi, maker of our ‘symbol’ and Honorary President of, starting from next year, will create the “Verdissime Award” which the Association will give to a person or an Institution that has particularly distinguished themselves in the artistic and social field through beneficent or generous actions towards the others.

Feeding the planet, energy for life is the theme of the 2015 Expo, which will take place in Milan from  1st May to 31st October. It consists of a series of initiatives, to which 175 nations will participate, with the aim of increasing the value of food as culture expression and socializing vehicle. Using this subject as a pretext,, with the collaboration of the Piacenza’s Province, intends to organise a research on the ingredients for the courses recipes during Verdi’s age, to offer to Expo visitors. The idea is to realize a Verdi’s ‘stand’ which offers the delicacies of the Piacenza’s territory, showing them in an original way. This research and the preparation of recipes will be proposed from our Association to the Piacenza’s Hotel School, involving chefs with an international prestige, while, -besides the wines to serve- will be interested and involved local firms which will provide the “raw materials”. The idea originates and will develop on the basis of the menù of the dinner that Giuseppe Verdi ate on 20th January 1901 at the Grand Hôtel et de Milan. The various courses -Julienne au crôte (vegetable soup), Truite grillée à la maître d’hôtel (grilled trout according to the chef’s mind), Aloyau de boeuf à la jardinière (beef tenderloin with picked vegetables), Pain de gibier-Asperges en branche (fowl bread with asparagus stems), Dindonneau à la broche (top round turkey), Glace aux framboises, Patisserie, Dessert (raspberry glace, pastries, dessert)- represent an interesting chance to create some links with the courses of that time. In his gastronomy treaty of 1868, the King of Cooks, Giovanni Nelli, are described the courses and wines that could have accompanied M°Verdi’s menu, in the international cuisine of that age: punch or porto, champagne, common wines, excellence wines.
